Since our last proper Lexicon entry (wait, there was a proper one?), we’ve seen a couple of news stories that caught my eye. The first was the story involving Iryna Zarutska, a young Ukrainian woman stabbed to death on Charlotte’s light rail system. The second was the assassination of conservative activist and commentator Charlie Kirk, who was shot during an exchange at Utah Valley University. Although these events seem different on the surface, there is one thing that brings them together: they were both victims of crime.
When it comes to crime, there are two fields of thought, and they seem to line up along ideological lines. For some, it’s dirt simple, but for others (and by others I mean Leftists), it’s far more complicated. You know, like trying to explain how two genders actually means 9,249,148,275 genders. And, as you might guess, the two sides’ reactions to crime are vastly different.
Which makes it a perfect subject to discuss this week.
crime
What the Left thinks it means – the consequences of a multitude of factors, including poverty, racism, and lack of support
What it really means – when bad people do bad things
Not to sound like an old man, but I kinda am, but back in my day people had an understanding of right and wrong. (Of course, back in my day we had to dodge velociraptors on our way through the tar pits just to get to school, but that’s another story.) We understood there were consequences to bad actions, whether it be divine damnation, a paddling from Dad, or, dare I even mention it, having to sit through “The Lawrence Welk Show.” To this day, bubbles give me flashbacks.
Not that I know anything about being bad, mind you…
And that model worked pretty well for a long time. Then, Leftists came along and muddied the waters with concepts that you’d have to be high to come up with, let alone make into actual policy. The Sixties were a time of questioning of traditional and moral foundations, mostly through the use of illicit drugs (hence the previous comment about being high). And after students who fought against The Man grew up and got into positions where they became The Man, they took those ideas and put them into place.
Among those ideas was redefining what crime is. It was no longer about theft, murder, or liking Nickelback. It was more about the underlying causes the Left could identify, i.e. exploit, to “understand” the criminal’s motives. It’s not that the mass murder was dagnasty evil; he was just the victim of a bad home life. The guy who broke into an appliance store and stole the biggest TV he could carry? He was just trying to provide for his family. I’ve literally seen Leftists say these people were just stealing food, but last time I checked, bread didn’t have a 56 inch HD screen.
By doing this, the Left has turned those who were the victimizers into victims themselves, and with that came a shit-ton of excuses to hand wave away their crimes. And as for the actual victims? Well, let’s just say the summer picnic at Ice Station Zebra was warmer than the reception the Left gives them. If the victims weren’t outright demonized (see the Tesla firebombings), they were ignored. While police departments and city officials were pushing for reform in the aftermath of the BLM riots…I mean fiery but peaceful demonstrations, the people who weren’t even part of the problem were left to deal with the aftermath without so much as a helping hand.
Put simply, the criminals were in charge of the judicial system.
That rot has spread to other areas that also directly impact citizens. Judge Hannah Dugan took justice into her own hands not only to obstruct ICE, but provide assistance to an illegal immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, to escape. And then she lied about it! On top of all that, she was suspended with pay. Imagine if you or I pulled that shit. We would be lucky to get the bum’s rush to Gitmo, but this shithead gets to get paid and file frivolous appeals to prevent her from getting her just punishment for her crimes?
And, yes, the Left has made her a victim of, guess who, Donald Trump.
Fuck me sideways, that’s, well, sideways.
But it brings us back to the second part of the FAFO sandwich within the legal system, punishment. Whenever one person wrongs another, there is supposed to be punishment. Notice I said “supposed to be” because in too many cases the punishment fits as well as David Byrne’s suit from “Stop Making Sense.” In some cases, like many of the January 6 “rioters,” the punishment is too harsh, too cruel, and definitely too unusual. In others, like with the lowlife that killed Iryna Zarutska, he got off most recently with…a written promise he would appear in court for a misdemeanor, something he has a history of not doing.
And, yes, there’s a connection here to your friend and mine, Uncle George Soros.
Seems Georgie Porgie has been helping more progressive prosecutors get elected in an attempt to “fix” the judicial system. Ironically, or perhaps intentionally, this has broken the system and lead to some mind-numbingly stupid decisions that have harmed people, all in the name of social justice.
But social justice isn’t actually justice in reality. It’s basically creating new rules for different people because of past injustices. That’s an issue when it comes to the prosecution of actual crime because not every criminal has been oppressed, thus assuming that people of a certain racial background has been makes it harder to hold them accountable without there being some kind of backlash. You know, like burning parts of cities, looting, and rioting.
And when you think about it (and I do because there’s nothing good on television), that backlash becomes a second method of excusing crime. After all, if you’re scared to say “You know, maybe burning down black-owned businesses isn’t a good idea” you are more willing to look away when it actually happens because you don’t want trouble. That’s the default position with most people: we don’t want to stir the pot. Oddly enough, the exact opposite applies to the terminally online population.
So, the Left has made it possible to be a criminal, get away with it, and in those rare occasions you face a judge, not see any consequences for your actions. All you have to do is pull your shit in a Left-friendly jurisdiction, play the sympathy card (along with any other cards available to you), and even raise money for your legal defense through online donations that you can use on things other than your legal defense.
The bad news is people are getting sick of it and noticing these mockeries of justice more frequently. All they need is someone who will do something about it if their local police and city officials won’t. When Donald Trump activated the National Guard to try to restore order to Washington, DC, the Left assumed they would be booed out of the city all the way back to Mar A Lago. Turns out the opposite happened, and the main people pissed about the situation were elderly white people who don’t even live where the crime is. Trump listened and took action when Leftists stood by with their heads up their asses because they couldn’t fit their thumbs up there at the same time.
What the Left doesn’t realize is when you’ve enabled lawlessness for as long as they have, the pushback is going to be harder than they think. Trump’s takeover of the Washington, DC, police duties has caused a drop in crime across the board, even if the Left has to spin it as though it were happening before him which is questionable. Please see my previous Lexicon entry regarding Washington, DC, for more details (and to drive up the views a bit). What’s more, it’s given Trump an easy win, leaving the Left gnashing their teeth and predicting an authoritarian/fascist takeover (the 89th this week!), but it’s not even that. It’s the fact the Left is softer on crime than President Brick Tamland likes his ice cream. If it were any softer, ED drug companies would use it as the “Before” picture in their print advertisements.
Which would help Elizabeth “Chief Running Mouth” Warren and Bernie “I’m Not Cool Enough For a Nickname” Sanders pad their pockets a bit more.
Did I say that out loud? No, I typed it out loud.
Anyway, there is a downside to reacting to crime with force, that being power is addictive. You think a crack habit is hard to break? Try being a Congresscritter with unlimited funds to play with and a city full of people who will let you play with it, and them. Even if you promise not to use your power for evil, there will always be the temptation to do it, which creates a problem in and of itself. When you make the law, you can make yourself above it very easily. And if there are no consequences when you break the law, you feel more and more untouchable.
And the more untouchable you feel, the more brazen you are with your crimes.
Although Trump’s actions in DC are a step in the right direction, it’s going to take a lot more steps to get to where we need to be, and they have to be careful steps. Anger from the killing of two young adults in such a short amount of time is understandable, but it cannot be the driving force because it can turn justice into vengeance. And that’s the Lord’s job. Well, either him or Ghost Rider.
Anyway, to me the only way to fight back against lawlessness is to show people a better way. Live your life with respect for others, even if they don’t share your worldview. Think before you act, and when you act, act with your head and your heart. You won’t be able to save everybody, but at least you won’t be adding to the situation that drives more and more people to become criminals. And don’t be afraid to call out fuckups on our side as well as theirs. What you allow your side to do is what you allow for the other side to do.
In closing, I feel horrible about what happened to Iryna and Charlie. I didn’t know either one of them well enough, but I’m a human being first and foremost. Pray for our country. We’re gonna need it.

Leftist Lexicon Word of the Week
As the Left goes further Left (i.e. insane), their grasp on reality gets looser than the slots at the world’s least profitable casino. And also the sluts at the aforementioned casinos. Not that I know anything about either, mind you…
This week, the Left found themselves having to explain away crime rates in Washington, DC, after President Donald “the J Stands for Jenius” Trump authorized the federal takeover of Washington, DC’s police department. Whether this was a good idea or a letting-Adam-Kinzinger-teach-you-about-how-to-be-a-man-level bad idea is subject to debate. But it allows us to take a closer look at our nation’s capital and crack a few jokes in the process, so it’s all good on my side!
Washington, DC
What the Left thinks it means – the seat of our government and a well-run and safe city
What it really means – a wretched hive of scum and villainy that makes Mos Eisley look like Amish Country
Washington, DC’s history begins in part with the history of our nation. With the reading, writing, and ratification of the US Constitution, we finally had a seat of government, thanks to Article I, Section 8, Clause 17:
To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;–And
And things went downhill from there.
Wait, that’s not exactly fair. There were a few good years in there, and then things went downhill. Today, the capital city is a mixture of Beverly Hills and Belfast after an IRA bender. Depending on who you ask, crime is either the biggest problem there or not a problem at all.
The latter position is the one the Left is going with, by the way.
So, what is the truth? Let’s just say Belfast after an IRA bender is looking a lot like Club Med at times. According to the Department of Justice under President Brick Tamland, crime in DC is at a 30 year low. Others outside of the Leftist hivemind say DC is a dangerous city. But the ones who are often closest to the problem (i.e. the citizens) give a less-than-rosy picture.
From fatal beatings of cancer patients to violent crime victims not being tended to by the police department to a handful of unsolved homicide cases just this year, it’s clear there is a crime problem in Washington, DC. Even those who think DC is safe admit there are shootings.
Wait. Didn’t Washington, DC, have some of the strictest gun laws in the country? Why, yes, yes they did. So surely the people who are concerned about shootings in DC are wrong, right?
Not according to one of the Left’s favorite gun confiscation…I mean control organizations, Everytown for Gun Safety. Their statistics show DC had the 6th highest rate of gun deaths in the entire country.
But surely, those have to be the worst of the criminal activity there, right? Well, unless you count carjacking, which spiked in DC in 2023 and is still an ongoing problem to this day.
The Left is correct to a point about crime declining since 2023. Where they’re not quite telling the truth is omitting a longer time frame for us to study. If we look at numbers beyond 2023, many crimes skyrocketed while few declined. And when you consider the multitude of victim services organizations designed to help people affected by criminal behavior, the logic that Washington, DC, is safe isn’t logicing.
Most of this can be chalked up to political bullshit. Democrats like Chuck Schumer say the crime situation isn’t that bad. Of course, when you’re behind armed security, it’s easy to feel safe or even think you’re a badass. Then again, Leftists think Eric “Fang Fang’s Bitch” Swalwell is a badass, so take that for what you will.
As bad at all of this is, there’s no way it could get any worse, right? I mean, the only way it could get worse would be if a DC Police commander got accused of fudging the numbers to make them appear better.
Oh, wait…
Even if the allegations prove to be more of a nothingburger than having “Kamala Harris speech writer” on your resume, the fact remains DC citizens aren’t buying the spin because it doesn’t match their lived experience. You know, that thing Leftists like to drag out to justify their bullshit social/racial/gender/sexual orientation/whatever justice ideas they want to turn into a scam…I mean a money laundering…I mean a project.
Anyway, the point is the “lowest crime rate since 2023” is this year’s “the flaming dumpster fire of an economy really isn’t that bad” that worked out so well for Queen Kamala the Appointed and her sidekick Tim “No Balls to the” Walz last year.
And for you Leftists reading this right now, it didn’t work. Sorry you had to hear it from me, but better it from me than out on the streets. Or BlueSky, for that matter.
What the Left has to contend with right now is convincing people living in Washington, DC, that what they’re experiencing isn’t what’s really going on. This is some Matrix-level shit right here. The problem isn’t going to be solved by taking a red or blue pill, but it may have something to do with changing from blue politicians to red politicians. Since 1975, the city has had 7 Democrat Mayors and…no Republican Mayors. And if you want to find the last Republican in any meaningful leadership role in the city, you have to go back to 1961, over 60 years ago.
Now, what conclusions can we draw about the safety of Washington, DC, and who has been running the city constantly since the early 60s? I mean, it’s not like someone has compiled crime statistics from the 60s onward, right?
Oh, wait…
Even if you’re not big on making a direct correlation between the aforementioned factors, you don’t have to do that to see what one-party rule of a city has done as it pertains to quality of life. Every major city has crime, but not every major city is in the top ten of violent crime rates, and our nation’s capital came in at number 7 with a bullet. Or a lot of them as the case may be.
You don’t have to be Stevie Wonder to see it may be time for a change of leadership in Washington, DC. Where that gets complicated is in the nature of the District of Columbia itself. Since it’s not a state (not that the Left hasn’t tried to make it one), there is no state-level government to step in. It goes from city leadership to federal leadership, and right now that federal leadership is under the purview of one…Donald J. Trump.
And hilarity ensues.
And by hilarity, I mean Leftists losing their shit, which can be hilarious, so…samesies, I guess?
To be fair, I’m not that keen on any military or National Guard presence on the streets of any community to uphold order because it can lead to a police state very easily. Or at the very least, cries of a police state from Leftists, which is pretty much a given anytime Trump applies even a little pressure on the Leftist hivemind.
This is why I urge caution to anyone who supports Trump’s actions in Washington, DC. You own what happens, good and bad. If you take out a street gang, do it by the book, not by what you wish would happen to them. If you find and detain illegal immigrants, always assume the world is watching and leave zero wiggle room for the critics to complain
And if people could act like they should all the time, DC wouldn’t have a crime problem that the Left could deny.
Regardless, watch your six because you never know who will be there to catch you in a momentary lapse of reason (or some other Pink Floyd album for that matter).
To the Leftists out there who say Washington, DC, is safe, show us by going into some of the rougher neighborhoods with a camera crew and documenting everything you see via live video. Then, we can see for ourselves.
Of course, that’s as likely as Hunter Biden learning how to paint a still life, so I guess we’re fucked there.
Leftist Lexicon Word of the Week
To say California is the epicenter of batshit crazy is an understatement of Michael Moore sumo wrestling Rosie O’Donnell proportions, but there are still some times when I have to say, “No fucking duh!” This week, the San Francisco Chronicle reported due to “safety concerns” employees of the Nancy Pelosi Federal Building were advised to work from home.
No fucking duh!
Once one of the shining cities of the West Coast, San Francisco is starting to look like a crack whore once you sober up, only with more shit. What caused the downfall of the backdrop of many a “Full House” episode? I’m glad you asked!
San Francisco
What the Left thinks it means – a beautiful progressive city that exemplifies the best of Leftist causes
What it really means – a literal shithole that exemplifies the best of Leftist causes
If you really want to know the history of San Francisco prior to going further into this week’s Lexicon, here’s the Wikipedia entry. And try not to giggle too hard at the “commercial, financial, and cultural center” part.
Meanwhile back at 2023, San Francisco is not doing so hot. Depending on who you ask, crime is either a serious concern or not nearly as bad as some would lead us to believe. At one point, drug overdoses more than doubled COVID deaths in 2020. There were 7750 homeless people of various backgrounds as of 2022 in a city of 715,717, or for you mathheads out there, a little over 1% of the population.
But if you look at the chart in the previous link, you will notice San Francisco’s population has been declining since 2020. Which, of course, is Donald Trump’s fault…
Or it might be who the voters put into office. Nahhhhh!
Seriously, for all of the cultural diversity San Francisco is known for, this doesn’t appear to translate to ideological matters. After all, two of the favorite Leftist institutions of higher learning, Stanford and UC Berkeley, are housed in the Bay Area. And considering some of the graduates of said campuses, maybe they should be considered institutions, if you know what I mean.
And speaking of insanity, there are two elements that have made San Francisco (and California in general) into Thunderdome with more rainbow flags. We start with Proposition 47, an initiative to reduce penalties for non-violent crimes like shoplifting from possible felonies to misdemeanors. And, of course, this proposal passed because…reasons. Although Proposition 47 didn’t decriminalize shoplifting, it did act as a deterrent for police officers to investigate such crimes and for attorneys to prosecute them.
Then, there’s the second element: store employees trying to stop shoplifters are the ones who could be getting in trouble, thanks to the California Senate. Seems they passed a bill that would prohibit store employees from stopping shoplifters. And Leftists wonder why companies are pulling out of San Francisco?
Well, to put it simply for the Leftists, it’s your fucking fault this is happening. Not only are you creating an environment where you’d have to be insane to try to set up shop in San Francisco, but you’re disincentivizing companies to stay there. And what do you think will happen if those who generate income (i.e. a tax base) decide to pack up and go to greener pastures? Here’s a hint, kids: it doesn’t get better from here. And nothing the idiot used car salesman you elected Governor can say or do will fix that.
And that shitstain criticizes how Ron DeSantis governs in Florida? And he wants to run for President so he can bring his Leftist incompetence to the nation?
Sorry, Leftists. I’ll pass.
The sad thing is Leftists actually think San Francisco is a utopia, and they’re right. It’s just the utopia they see doesn’t involve going anywhere near where the problems are. Say what you will about Leftists, and believe me I do, but they are exceptional at living in more protective bubbles than John Travolta. (And if you got that reference, I thank you.) As long as they’re doing well, that’s all that matters.
But there’s a problem with that. Once the non-Leftists realize they outnumber the Leftists and get pissed off enough to do something about it, they tend to revolt. And I’m not talking about the pussy-ass Portland CHAD/CHOP bullshit, either. I’m talking French Revolution. The only thing stopping Reign of Terror 2: Electric Boogaloo is the Left keeps promising free stuff to the less fortunate to keep them docile and voting Democrat. And considering the last Republican mayor left office in 1964, it seems to be working.
However, Atlas is starting to shrug because there is only so much a population can take before they start looking for new leadership. Even as blue as the Bay Area was in 2020, turning it into Calcutta East isn’t a winning strategy, and you can’t keep offering free stuff while forcing businesses to keep items locked up due to shoplifting. The breaking point is coming, maybe not now or in 2024, but it is coming. And when Atlas finally shrugs, the people ignoring the problem right now are going to be the ones overwhelmed and needing help.
Until that happens, avoid San Francisco if at all possible, but also keep an eye on your own cities. For better or for definitely the worst, what happens in California tends to take hold in the rest of the country sooner or later. The only way to stop this insanity is to make sure it never takes hold. Easier said than done, I know, but if you arm yourselves with the facts, you can spot the San Francisco freak…I mean treat long before it hits Main Street.
And if that fails, invest heavily in hip waders because you’re gonna need ’em to navigate Brown Street, if you know what I mean…
